Big update from us over at Quill -- and this one's been a long time coming. (This might be our biggest new feature ever!)
Starting today, all users now have access to Custom Documentation Templates.
If you're someone who’s ever thought, "I wish Quill could write my intake assessments" or "I like this progress note, but I wish I could adjust the format or sections slightly" -- this is for you.
You can now create your own templates for whatever type of documentation you need. Intake assessments, supervision notes, progress notes with custom sections... You name it.
And it's easy and quick to use! Add just a few section titles, and Quill will build out a full first draft for you. Then you can customize it: rearrange sections, add required phrases and other logic, and tweak how you want each part to be written. No more one-size-fits-all.
Once your documentation template is set up, you can use it over and over again! You just record your usual session summary and Quill fills out your documentation for you. It's the same AI magic you’re used to with Quill -- now shaped around how you like to work and how you want your documentation to be organized.
Why we built this
Over the last few months, we’ve been quietly testing this with a small group of users -- individual therapists, group practices, and even a few larger teams -- and the feedback has been invaluable. Whether someone needed a specific workflow for intake sessions or wanted a note that reflected their unique approach to therapy, we heard it loud and clear: the more customizable, the better.
Honestly, in our very first weeks of Quill (over a year ago!), we started to receive requests for intake assessments. And as we dug further into what it would take to support that, talking with lots of therapists, etc., we realized that... everybody has different requirements for intake assessments! Unlike notes, with standards like DAP and SOAP, intake assessments are all over the place with which sections and details therapists want to include. So we knew that if we ever wanted to support that type of documentation, we'd have to let therapists fully customize it! And so when we went to solve intake assessments, we figured, hey, why not let therapists create any type of documentation they want? And so that's what we did.
We’re really grateful to everyone who’s helped test this feature, offered thoughtful feedback, and told us where things still felt confusing. This entire feature is better because of your involvement.
No extra charge
Just to say it clearly: there’s no add-on fee or premium tier for custom templates. If you're on a plan with us -- free trial or paid -- you already have access.
Quill is still $20 per month for unlimited notes and unlimited treatment plans. And now unlimited custom documentation templates too! (And it's still $16 per month per additional user for teams!)
Team Sharing
Speaking of teams, if you have a team account at Quill, you can create a documentation template and then share it with your team! So everyone can literally be on the same page when it comes to your documentation. (No pun intended.)
Want to try it?
Start with a name for your template, a short description, and a few section titles (like "Presenting Concerns", "Treatment Goals"). That’s all you need. Quill handles the rest, creating a first draft that you can then tweak to your heart's content.
Try it out now by heading to Custom Documentation Templates!
And if you want to learn more about how to use this feature, we created a guide to walk you through it too: Custom Documentation Template Guide
