It should go without saying, but therapists and clients deserve real confidentiality. Your sessions are private conversations, not data points to be analyzed, stored, or sent elsewhere.
At Quill, we take this seriously. Our AI helps therapists write progress notes -- but it doesn’t listen in, record sessions, or store any sensitive data. The therapist remains in full control, just as it should be.
If you’re a therapist, ask yourself:
- Would you feel comfortable if your own therapy session (as a client) was being recorded and stored on someone else’s servers?
And if you're not a therapist, but you go to therapy, here's something you should know:
- You can/should explicitly and proactively tell your therapist not to record your sessions.
- If they ask for your consent, you can say no.
- And honestly, not every therapist is even asking for consent. (But "asking for consent" and the power dynamics at play are topics for another day!)
This is why we built Quill the way we did. Security and ethics aren't afterthoughts -- they're the foundation of everything we do.
Feel free to weigh-in and contribute to the conversation! Here's Jon's LinkedIn post on this topic of therapy sessions and privacy. It's important that our voices are heard.
