Here are a few common questions about Quill that touch on a variety of topics. If you have a question or concern not covered here, please email hello@quilltherapynotes.com.
What is an AI progress note generator?
An AI progress note generator takes input from therapists and generates a progress note for a therapy session, which they can then store in their records or EHR platform. It uses AI to transform that input into the therapist's preferred therapy note format. (Quill emphasizes privacy and security by only working off of a summary of the session, not a recording of the session.)
How do I use Quill?
First, register for your free account. (No need to provide a credit card for your free account.) Following that, you can create your first note! Simply record a summary of your session (or type out a summary, if you’d like) and click “Generate Note”. A few seconds later, a note in your preferred format will be presented to you. Copy and paste that note into the EHR system of your choice!
How long should my client therapy session summary be?
Try to keep it short! Maybe a minute or so? See how brief you can be, but not too brief — you still want to include all of the necessary details for your progress note.
Can I include a direct quote from a client?
Yes! When referencing the quote in your verbal summary, be sure to say “quote” and “unquote” around the direct quote. This allows the AI to know exactly what portion is the direct quote. (Remember, it can’t see you making quote gestures with your hands.) For example, you could say something like: "Client said that they were feeling quote super sad and lonely unquote."
Is Quill HIPAA compliant?
Yes! Indeed we are HIPAA compliant. You can read more about it on our page dedicated to HIPAA.
Is Quill HIPPA compliant?
We think you mean HIPAA. If so, please see above question.
Can I get a signed BAA with Quill?
Yes, you can absolutely get a BAA! This is a part of being HIPAA compliant. Hop over to our BAA page and let's get a signed BAA between you and Quill!
What if I accidentally say identifiable client information during my summary?
No worries! For starters, we are HIPAA compliant. But also, we do not store any of your data — this includes your submitted summary and the resulting content for your note.
I have some ideas on how to make Quill better. Are you open to that?
Absolutely. Please send us an email and let’s hear your ideas!
Will you eventually add support for more note styles or formats?
Yes, we’d love to. We tackled DAP and SOAP first, and we just added PIRP and BIRP and SIMPLE, but we want to expand and add others too. Can you send us an email about your specific note style or format? We can then prioritize it.
What is this "SIMPLE" progress note format?
We received a number of requests for a note format that was simply a paragraph of all critical details, not separated into separate sections like the other note formats. So the SIMPLE note format does just that — it's one big paragraph that you can then copy and paste wherever you need that note!
Can I store my notes on this platform?
No. Quill intentionally does not store your notes. Please use your EHR system to store your clinical progress notes.
What EHR systems does Quill support?
Quill literally supports every Electronic Health Record (EHR) system. Of course, the common ones are Simple Practice and TherapyNotes.com, but as long as your EHR system expects your notes to be text (and we assume it does), Quill supports it. Quill provides your generated note as text, which you then copy and paste into your EHR system. This is why it’s compatible with all EHR systems.
I own a group practice. Can I get a login for everyone?
Absolutely! Sign up for our team plan, and you'll be able to invite the rest of your team to the same account. Everyone gets to generate unlimited clinical progress notes, and only you have to manage the billing. (Please do not share a single account login with multiple users.)
How does team pricing work?
The first user (so probably you) is $20 per month. Each subsequent user you add to your team is a reduced $16 per month. Those subsequent costs are prorated based on when the other users accepted your invitation to join your team at Quill. For example, if you register today and then your team member joins 15 days later, you'll be charged ~$8, since half of the current billing period has already passed. (With a few exceptions, those subsequent users' costs will simply be added onto your next month's invoice. You won't be invoiced for them immediately.)
I started with an individual plan, but now I want to upgrade to a team plan. How do I do that?
It's super simple! Hop over to the My Account page and click the button "Upgrade to the Team Plan" button. This will then give you all of the previously-hidden team options, like inviting the rest of your team to join Quill!
Is there a free option for AI note generation?
Yes, there is a free option! Please sign up and use Quill for five free notes. At the very least, it'll help you knock out five therapy notes quickly! And if you like it, it's $20 per month for unlimited AI generated notes. Many therapists agree that it's worth it for unlimited therapy notes! (Also spelled therpay notes or thearpy notes, depending on how much sleep or coffee you've had.)
When does Quill's billing period start?
Your own personal billing period starts when you start your subscription! So just like Netflix, Spotify, or any other monthly subscription, there's no need to wait until the 1st of the next month. Subscribe today and you won't be billed again until a month from today. You'll get an entire month's worth of value from Quill with that first payment.
How do I access past invoices?
Head over to My Account and click "Manage Plan (via Stripe)". This will take you to a page (powered by Stripe) that lets you view and download any and all past invoices. Just look under "Invoice History" at the bottom of the page.
How do I change my payment method?
Click "Manage Plan (via Stripe)" on the My Account page. This will take you to a page (powered by Stripe). Click the little pencil icon next to your current payment method to change it.
What's the origin story of Quill?
The concept of Quill was dreamed up by a wife and husband team, the former a mental health therapist and the latter a software developer. As the latter was inventing various tools with AI, the former thought, hey, that would be super useful for my notes too! A proof-of-concept was developed, and after many colleagues also found utility in such a tool, Quill was built and launched! (I hope you like it as much as my incredible wife does!)
Can I send a quote for your endorsements section?
Of course! We love to hear your feedback, good or bad, and if you are so happy that you’d like to publicly endorse us, you’d make our day.
Do you have a therapy notes template?
What makes Quill special is that you don't need one! You can rattle off a summary of your session, and then Quill rearranges that information into a therapy note template for you. That template can be any of the common note formats, including a DAP note template, SOAP note template, and others. (And suggest any that we haven't covered yet!)
What types of information should I include in my therapy progress notes? What should I exclude?
Quill provides a rough outline of information to include in your therapy note when you go to generate a new note. But it's really dependent on you, the therapist, to decide what information is relevant, given what took place in your session with the client! Quill is not inventing new information -- it is simply rearranging the information that you provide it!
Is there a Quill therapy notes app?
If you're asking if there's a therapy notes app that will work on your phone or tablet, yes! Quill's website is designed to be completely mobile-friendly. You can record your session summary, generate an AI note, copy-and-paste that note into Simple Practice or another EHR, etc., all from your phone or tablet. There's no need to download an additional therapy notes app -- just use our website!
We hope these questions and answers were helpful! Again, send us an email with any additional questions.
