Once your template is ready, using it is super simple -- and honestly feels just like using Quill for notes.
You can either record a quick summary or write one out, and Quill will generate the documentation using the structure you created.
How to access your custom template
There are two easy ways to get to your template:
Go to the Custom Templates page and click Generate Documentation next to the template you want to use.
Or just click the Generate Note dropdown from the top nav -- you'll see your templates listed under "Custom Templates".
Either way will bring you to the familiar note generation screen -- just like you're used to.
Step 1: Provide your summary
Step 1 is exactly what you've seen before:
- Click Start Recording and speak your summary out loud, or
- Click Write Text and type it up instead.
(If you've used Quill for notes, you already know the drill.)
The template you selected will be displayed at the top, and any documentation details you've added will appear below the recording area to guide you. If you've created a sticky note for this template, it will show up too -- which is great for remembering what to include in your summary.
Step 2: Paste existing documentation (optional)
If there's already some documentation written (like from another system or just the last time you wrote this documentation, pulling it from your EHR), you can paste it in before you generate. Quill will still use your template to structure and improve it.
Otherwise, just leave that part blank.
Step 3: Generate your documentation
Click the Generate Documentation button, and Quill will do the rest -- building a complete document using your template.
Everything will be in the structure you set up, and any extra instructions you added will be followed automatically.
That's it! Once the documentation is generated, copy-and-paste it into the EHR platform of your choice. It text, so Quill works with any and all systems that store your documentation.
Want to make a change? You can!
Here's the cool part: if you realize something needs to be updated in your template while you're generating the documentation, you can click Edit Template, make your changes, and then just regenerate.
No need to re-record your summary or start over. Your summary stays put -- just hit generate again, and Quill will use your updated version.
Optional: Add a sticky note
Sticky notes are totally optional, but super useful. You can use them as a quick checklist or teleprompter -- just a little reminder of what to cover in your summary for this type of documentation.
You can create or update the sticky note right from the template editor. Once it exists, it'll appear on the documentation page whenever you're using that template.
So that about does it! This is the same experience you know, now customized to fit exactly how you want to structure your new types of documentation.
